My Weekly Prototec Maths Results Graph

Hello everyone commenting and/or reading on my blog,

My class has been using Prototec for the last 6 weeks this term. Every week we are marking down our test results from Prototec (which is a good website to go to for maths) Here is the link here.

The part I found challenging is turning percentages into fractions.
I learned that the tenths of 0.192 was 0.1, not 1.92.

We put it onto our own separate graphs to show how well we are doing on prototec, so here is mine:

Term4 week4 100wc: The Land of SLENDER MAN

Sorry I havn't been uploading 100wc for a while, so I made one with the prompt: 'as the smoke cleared'. Please enjoy.

20/08/05
It was a good day to be a detective, I had loads of assignments.

Unluckily, I chose one randomly, I was going to a ‘so called’ haunted location, where there was a family of six that went missing.

19/12/05

I solved half of the mystery, but it has loose ends as the smoke cleared, like the locals were telling me of how one member of the family had summoned a mythical creature called the slender man, it took 2 of the children, it killed the 3 adults and- *thump thump* -what was… OH NO! *static*.

At the Ellesmere Speech Competition

After School on Monday night, my mum took me to the Ellesmere Speech competition where we met my fellow classmate Emily and her mum. Then Mr Robertson and Miss Blair arrived. When the speeches started we all went to the room where the Yr7's had their speeches first because Emily's speech will be later. We had to wait a while before I stood up and said my speech about "Videogames should be used in the education system". here is my speech: “Video games should be used in the education system!”

Afterwards, we left to go to the Yr8's room to hear Emily's speech, which was a long time. I don't know what place I came but I know I didn't come 3rd place, but we still got participation certificates. I am very proud to go to the Speech Competition and I hope to do better next time.

My DigiAward

Hello everyone, I have entered the Digi-Award Competition this year and my category was digital sandpit.
I had to use my computer and an ipad from my class. It took a while to make because I had to copy my entire classroom in minecraft and since I'm not in a group, I had to make students by using armor stands with steve heads on them. But I managed to get it finished in time just before the end of school time, I think it's great and I hope you enjoy it.

Going to Cantamaths

Cantamaths

On Wednesday the 24th of August, I and 6 other students from Rimu and 1 student from Kauri went to Horncastle Arena, where we were going to Cantamaths. There we had a Yr8 and a Yr7 team.At 4pm, our Yr7 team and other Yr7 teams had go down stairs and the runners had to go out first and choose a table in the arena. The Yr7 scored 20 points, a good score for them since it was their first time.

At 5pm,
Our team (the Yr8 team) went down the stairs and into the arena where Gus (the runner) ran out and chose a table in a line which was short.
We then started answer questions that Gus gave to Bella P, Emily and I, some of our questions were so tough that we had to pass.
In the end, my team got 75 points out of 100 points!
We got 40 MORE points than last year, but we didn't win anything because there were a lot teams who got 100 points and we weren't one those teams,
but we had good time and I'm excited for next year's Cantamaths.

my 6th 100wc : The 8 days in Alcatraz Prison

This is my 6th 100wc and our prompt was what was it like if you were in Alcatraz Prison. Please enjoy. ;)

Date: June 19th. Today I was put into Alcatraz Prison and to be locked up in a cell and I need to break out of this prison?

Date: June 25th. I was having trouble in my cell with a buddy called ‘Bob’ and he was more muscular than me and I need to escape this place...

Date: June 27th. I have a plan to escape, it has already began. I just dug a hole and I had the feeling that I’ll be shot by a guard nearby, but I found myself on a beautiful beach with a boat that is ready to be hijacked by me!

My WPCA rock climbing recount

It was the 20th of June, when the Year 7/8s in my class and I were getting ready to go to rock climbing and the reason why we were doing this was because it was part of our William Pike challenge. So we had some parents to help us by driving us to the place that is so high - the clouds are 1 metre above you and the place is called Cattlestop Crag.

When we arrived, the temperature was quite chilly and we met Josh and Steven, our instructors and we followed them on a path and when we stopped, they talked about what we are doing and what were our values we are focusing on today. These values are Pride and Resilience. This is important because when you do something and accomplish it, you then have pride to do more challenging versions of the thing you accomplished and have resilience if you fail doing something, don’t give up and try doing it again!

We put our gear on and our gear contained of : a helmet and a harness. I was also confused how to put on my harness. Cattlestop Crag was a big hillside with lots of rocks from the 2011 earthquakes.

I was amazed how good I was at rock climbing that wasn’t at clip n climb. We had a good time climbing and I had pride and resilience because I pushed myself to the limit.  When we were packing up I had a good feeling inside that I liked doing rock climbing and I want to do it next year.

I hope you enjoyed my recount, I had a good time during rock climbing and I hope to do it again next year.

5th 100wc : MineCraft Paradise The Backstory

This is my 5th 100wc, but it's about Minecraft Paradise and it's backstory, I hope you enjoy.
3 years after minecraft was made, Herobrine had escaped the yellow gate prison and ran towards an airplane and went in secretly.  Then when the plane was above the sea, Herobrine made a hole and he pushed passengers out the plane and into the sharks below.
But one passenger put her four 3yr old babies into her contrabass violin and Herobrine pushed her off, so she let go of her contrabass violin, she was eaten and her kids were alive as they were swept out to sea.
4 years later... they’ll work alone until they find each other.

My 4th 100wc : The day at work that had a lot of paperwork.

This week, our challenge was to write a conversation.
Enjoy!

On the 22nd of June, there was a guy who lived in peru, his name was Bobby McTune and he was a car guru. He worked at a car shop, but he put too much air in a tire and it went pop.

He got a job and it was at Tait and while he was waiting for a bus, a man next to him said “so you’re the new guy, would like to be mates with me” and Bobby said “Sure, see you tomorrow”. They were mates for a long time and they had fun together.

My 3rd 100 word challenge : The day my dryer caught on fire.

This is my 3rd  100wc, I hope you enjoy. Here is a link to the site https://100wc.net/

It was a normal late morning. Everything was fine until later when my mum, my sister (Julia) and I smelt smoke in the house.

Julia searched around the house with mum, then my mum opened the garage door...

Mum saw the dryer as the flame flickered and then went out as it burst into flames!

She yelled to us “Get out of the house! Julia grab Johnny ( my brother) now! Jacob (me) go to Nathan and Marie (our neighbours) and tell them there is a fire and get Nathan here!”.

We did as mum said, then Nathan went to mum and some fire trucks went to our house.

ANZAC STUDY

This is my reading work that my reading group did in week 2 and it is about ANZAC day. It has a lot of information about Anzac day and it's origins. Please enjoy.

My 2nd 100 word challenge : The Night of the Thundering Flood!

This is my second 100 word challenge and it's prompt is that you have to put these words into it: Silence, Orange, Thunder, Pyjamas and Swam. Oh also here is a to 100wc.com: https://100wc.net/ ;
Anyway, enjoy!

It was a late evening when I was about to go to bed. I was putting my orange pyjamas and then I went to sleep.
3 hours later, I heard a loud bang of thunder and then everything fell silence, that is when I woke up.

I went out of my bed and I went to look outside and I saw my neighborhood is flooding and I had knew what to do, I had swim to the hills behind my house.

I was knee deep in water in my house and I had to swim/walk out of my house.
I swam to the hills and saw a rescue helicopter.

My 100 word challenge: stairway to the sky

This is my 100 word challenge, if you don't know what is the 100wc here is a link to the site: https://100wc.net/
Here is the reason why we are doing the 100wc, because it can help your vocabulary and your writing skills.   Anyway, here is my 100wc, please enjoy!

Two years ago, I went to a mountain (that had very little life) and I found a strange set of stairs. I thought I should go up that stairway, so I went up there and I found the most beautiful place in my entire life! It was rich with nature and I saw some new types of birds that I call ‘borrow birds’ and and dig into the ground to find food and to make a home. Then I heard some strange noise that did not come the birds, then birds flew off and I wonder what creatures are here, so I made a camp here to observe the animals.

How my school holidays went. Is this true or false?

  1. At the start of the holidays, my family and I were too busy to go to the Anzac parade, but we made a fire outside in a log to cook fresh bacon and roasted marshmallows. Both foods were delicious.

  1. At the 2nd week, my family and I had another fire that is still safe, but we also had our neighbors come over to hang out with my mother and my dad, while my sister (Julia) and my little brother (John) watched the Minion’s movie While I played with my paper plane, which was cool, also the plane could glide and do amazing stunts like the Loop de loop.

Is #1 and/or #2 true or false?

My 'Wonder' work slideshow

This is my slideshow of my 'Wonder' work that my class and I did this in the first two weeks of school. I was interested about this book because there is a kid called August(he is a boy) and he has a bizarre deformed face. My class's main focus was the line 'Don't judge a boy by his face'. Hope you enjoy this.

The day my class went surfing.

On Monday 21st March, the Year 7/8s and I from Rimu Class went surfing for the day at Sumner Beach as their first Outdoor Challenge for the William Pike Challenge Award. I expected it to be  kind of easy, but it was harder than I imagined!

I found actually getting up on the board a bit difficult, but once I practised a lot, I was getting the hang of it. I learnt that my classmates really like surfing! Everyone seemed happy and keen to give it a go.

When I surf again, I will remember the 'cat’ movement and to keep my feet right down the bottom of the board when I start. It's important to be aware of other surfers too and not to cut into their wave.

Here is my poem about surfing:

Surfing,
I can see the people surf on the waves,
I can touch the water of the waves,
I can smell the saltiness of the sea,
I can surf the most epic waves,
I can hear the exciting screams of joy and fun,
I can taste the salty sickness of the water.

My recount about the night of the William Pike Challenge launch.

Displaying IMG_6080.JPGMy recount about the night of the William Pike Challenge launch.

It was the evening of the 8th of March, when the William Pike Challenge was being launched and it was meet the teacher, so my class called Rimu class had made a evening meal for our parents and us to eat and William Pike himself was there!

Then we had William Pike talk about how he lost his leg and what happened in his life after that. I volunteered to clean his metallic leg, which meant I got a copy of his book for free!

At the end, we were told that in a couple of weeks we are going surfing and then I went home. At the end of the evening I thought had a pretty good day.

Wonder is in 1st person

Last week, my class had find out what perspective was the story ‘Wonder’ was written in. (‘Wonder’ was written by R.J Palacio.) To do this, we had to do our own essays and use examples from the text, also we found quotes to back up what we thought. It had to have an introduction and an conclusion. Overall, I liked ‘Wonder’ so much, that I can’t wait to read more of ‘Wonder’. Please enjoy this.

‘Wonder’ is a story about a boy who feels ordinary on the inside, but he is always reminded of how different he is by how people respond when they see him. This is R.J Palacio’s first novel and it is written in the 1st person.

This paragraph at the start of the book is in first person because August says “I know I’m not an ordinary ten year old kid. I mean, sure, I do ordinary things. I eat ice cream. I ride my bike. I play ball. I have an XBox.”

This paragraph near the end of the first page is still in first person because august says “But I’m kind of used to how I look by now. I know how to pretend I don’t see the faces people make.”

This paragraph is at the chapter ‘Jack Will, Julian and Charlotte’ but yet, it is again first person because August says “Next week I start fifth grade. Since I’ve never been to a real school before, I am pretty much totally and completely petrified.”

Therefore, I think that Palacio has used the first person point of view in her story  ‘Wonder.’

My mihimihi

In the first two weeks of school, Rimu class learnt how to create and say our mihi in Māori. This is our introduction to our class and community. We also created a ‘visual mihimihi’ artwork to accompany our speeches. Each visual mihimihi had to have 3 parts to it:

  1. A self portrait or a photo
  2. Places of significance to us
  3. Symbols or pictures that re present our culture

Those of us who spoke clearly, confidently with excellent pronunciation with great visuals and layout scored well on our rubric. Take a look at my mihi and tell us what you think about it.
